Executive Education Certificate Program:
Strategy as Changing the Rules of the Global Game
Thursday, October 30, 2008 (10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
The Executive Education Certificate Program is a rare opportunity to learn and interact with the Global Workforce Symposium® keynote speaker in a private classroom setting. This year, highly respected business strategy innovator Dr. Vijay Govindarajan will lead learning and discussion about Strategy as Changing the Rules of the Global Game.
We now live in an era of almost constant change. First, new technologies continue to emerge at an ever-more rapid pace. Second, globalization brings with it new markets, new customers, nontraditional competitors, and new challenges. Third, the Internet has created much greater transparency to any company’s strategy, actions, and performance. As a result of these forces, companies find that their strategies need almost constant redefinition—either because the old assumptions are no longer valid, or because the previous strategy has been imitated and neutralized by competitors, or because technological developments and globalization offer unanticipated opportunities. Rooted in these premises, the strategic challenges for organizations become: How do we identify the market discontinuities (e.g., fundamental shifts in technology, customers, competitors, lifestyle/demographics, globalization, regulations, etc.) that could transform our industry? How do we analyze the opportunities and risks, as a result of our understanding of market discontinuities? How can we create new growth platforms with a view to exploit the market discontinuities? What are our core competencies and how can we leverage them in the growth platforms? How do we allocate resources to support growth? What is your role in shaping the future of your company? What kind of organizational DNA must we have in order to anticipate and respond to changes on a continual basis? How do you execute breakthrough strategies?
The Professor: Dr. Vijay Govindarajan, is the Earl C. Daum 1924 Professor of International Business at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College as well as the founding director of their Center for Global Leadership. Govindarajan is recognized as one of today’s leading business strategy innovators and one of BusinessWeek’s top 10 professors in Corporate Education.
Registration Information: This workshop is only open to Symposium registrants, however separate registration is required. In order to register, you must refer to the "Optional Programs Registration" section of the 2008 Global Workforce Symposium® Registration Form.

Corporate Mobility Benchmarking Workshop
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 (2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
In the relocation industry we understand transition. Successful companies have learned to tighten their belts for leaner times, and employees seek increased employment security and stability. Your organization’s programs and policies are essential to successfully ensuring that the right people are in the right place, at the right time. Whether your program is outsourced or in-house, now is the time to review your policies to ensure that they still meet the needs of your organization to control costs and minimize transferee and family stress. What worked in the environment that existed even six months ago may no longer be the best choice for your organization. Come prepared to work in small groups with specific components of your relocation policy, then discuss and share innovative solutions to the toughest policy issues. You will learn:
- How to present program/policy changes to senior management
- How to identify the benefits of the program for the company
- How to estimate the costs of the program
- How to ensure that your policy continues to be “up to date” and includes the latest “hot topics” and policy language content
Registration Information: This workshop is only open to Symposium registrants who are either corporate or government HR/relocation representatives responsible for administering their own company's relocation program. The workshop is free; however, in order to ensure enough space, please register via the"Optional Programs Registration" section of the 2008 Global Workforce Symposium® Registration Form.
