Worldwide ERC® Survey Shows Steady Increase in Current Employee Transfer Activity

In its newly released 2013 U.S. Transfer Volume & Cost Survey, Worldwide ERC® reports that U.S. companies relocating employees saw a 6 percent increase in current employee transfer volume in 2012 over 2011. The survey, sponsored by Brookfield Global Relocation Services, reflects responses from member organizations across a variety of industries. On average, respondents reported relocating 327 current employees in 2012, and anticipate relocating 348 by the end of this year.

Additional survey findings reveal:

  • Organizations project an overall increase in transfer volume of 6 percent again in the period from 2012 to 2013.
  • In 2012, the average cost to relocate a current employee homeowner was $91,528; a 6 percent decrease from 2011.
  • Five mobility related expense areas increased by 5 percent, on average, from 2011 to 2012, including federal tax liability, travel and lodging at the time of the move, bonuses/incentives given for employee-generated homesales and homesale assistance.
  • Sixty-one percent of respondents fully outsource the mobility function, while another 30 percent outsource selected aspects of the mobility function.

Worldwide ERC® President and CEO Peggy Smith, SCRP, SGMS, noted that “While business leaders are still undoubtedly feeling the effects of uncertainty in a post-recessionary environment, improvements in many real estate markets and a rebounding U.S. economy are promising for domestic mobility. The results of our survey confirm that companies are moving their current talent in greater numbers to fulfill their strategic objectives, and they expect that increase to continue.”

Available on a complimentary basis to members of Worldwide ERC®, the survey is also available for purchase by non-members for $95. The report can be ordered at www.Worldwideerc.org through the Resources tab
