For four years in a row, worldwide activity (horizontal or vertical mergers, joint ventures, or concentric mergers) exceeded 3 trillion dollars and across all sectors of which the USA was accountable for 2,958 of M&A transactions by the end of 2016.  Analysts forecast an increased M&A activity in 2018 as industries continue to diversify and change their business strategies to remain competitive.  While this is undoubtedly a positive for the economy, the reality behind these statistics are not.
