Employers may be required to provide foreign national employees with the same statutory benefits and protections as are provided to PRC national employees. Unexpected costs to employers could result from obligations to provide overtime pay, maternity leave, and social insurance. These requirements may also apply to residents of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao, as well as to employees seconded from abroad.
