The Public Charge Rule: How Nimble Is Your Immigration Program in Adapting to Sudden Changes?

Sponsor(s):  Berry Appleman & Leiden LLP

The rapid pace of regulatory changes requires that your immigration program maintain its adaptability. The public charge rule took effect on Feb. 24 on short notice and significantly expands the types of public benefits that could disqualify certain nonimmigrants and immigrant applicants, as well as the types of personal information employees must disclose on their applications.

Using the public charge rule as an example, this webcast will examine how HR professionals can improve their response at the program level when the government implements new regulations, directives or other changes to the way it adjudicates immigration petitions and applications.

You will learn:

  • What new information does the public charge rule require applicants to disclose?
  • Has your company calculated the added costs in dollars, time and risk involved in complying with the public charge rule?
  • How quickly was your program able to react and adapt to the public charge rule? Were you able to assess which employees will be affected by the new disclosure requirements and set expectations accordingly?
  • How can you use your experience with the public charge rule as a springboard to look at your immigration program and assessing its agility in responding to sudden regulatory and adjudicatory changes?
