Over the past several months, Worldwide ERC® has applauded the Biden Administration for its focus on strengthening supply chain resiliency through better quality trucking jobs. Our industry knows well that a strong and supported trucking workforce is the foundation for the timely movement of goods and materials, making employee mobility possible.
Earlier this month, President Biden – flanked by truckers, 18-wheelers, and representatives from the American Trucking Associations (ATA) – reported on the progress made to date, including:
- 2021 marked the best year for growth in trucking jobs since 1994, and trucking employment now exceeds its pre-pandemic level by 35,000 jobs.
- The Department of Transportation gave states the tools to more than double new commercial driver’s license issuances in January and February 2022 compared to January and February 2021.
- The trucking industry partnered with leading Veterans Service Organizations to support the recruitment and retention of veterans and military family members.
- Over 100 employers and 7 trade associations launched Registered Apprenticeship programs in 90 days to improve employee retention.
These advancements are to be celebrated, and as the ATA tweeted during the event, we welcome support from elected officials to help move America forward.
Supply chain challenges extend beyond the trucking industry, which is why Worldwide ERC has teamed up with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to host a members-only webinar about the current state of global supply chains on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. EST. I will be joined by the U.S. Chamber’s Vice President for Supply Chain Policy, John Drake, to discuss public policy initiatives to solve existing supply chain issues facing the global mobility industry.
