Critical Conversations Conclude at Davos 2021
Eric House - Jan 29 2021In case you missed it, we recapped Davos this week and gave previews into sessions that touch upon critical themes impacting businesses and the workforce mobility industry.
Today concludes the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting, or Davos, after a week where global leaders in business, government, and civil society met to discuss ways to improve business and the world at large. Throughout the past year and into 2021, the world has grappled with a global pandemic that has upended businesses and our personal lives. Now more than ever, the need for collaboration, innovation, and solutions are needed as we navigate a new normal while looking towards the future.
In case you missed it, we recapped Davos this week and gave previews into sessions that touch upon critical themes impacting businesses and the workforce mobility industry. On Monday, 25 January, we covered the themes of Davos, such as Better Business, How to Save the Planet, and Tech for Good. We focused on the theme Healthy Futures due to the ever-growing importance to focus on mental health and wellbeing in the COVID and post-COVID world in business and mobility.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) has also skyrocketed to the front of the line in business strategy, and in mobility, which is why our recap on Tuesday, 26 January covered the critical conversations leaders are having around this Society & Future of Work-themed topic. In sessions like “Stories Move Mountains” and “Delivering Social Justice in the Recovery,” DE&I was at the forefront of how businesses and governments can help make the world a better place for all by addressing inequities and making room at the table.
At the forefront of the future of work is the critical need for upskilling, which we covered on Wednesday, 27 January. With research revealing that widescale investment in upskilling has the potential to boost Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by $6.5 trillion by 2030, now is the time for businesses to develop a comprehensive learning and development (L&D) strategy. It’s also important to understand how COVID has reshaped in-demand skills, putting tech skills as well as certain soft skills in the lead as employers invest in skills that will shape the future.
Such tech skills are also important for their impact on the world at large, and in our last recap on Thursday, 28 January, we tapped into the Tech for Good sessions at Davos. Digital transformation is occurring at a rapid pace with a vast number of businesses turning to telecommuting to keep employees safe while ensuring business continuity. When it comes to digital transformation, mobility leaders will be crucial in understanding digital systems that help companies better manage talent, from analytics for retention to technology that simplifies the assignee experience.
Whether it’s harnessing tech for good, upskilling the workforce for the future, developing a comprehensive DE&I strategy, and more, workforce mobility professionals are key to solving some of the most pressing challenges these days. Throughout these educational Davos discussions among some of the world’s leading voices, it was evident that we are where work is going.
