Public Policy and Sustainability to Be Highlighted at GWS 2022
Lynn Shotwell, GMS - Sep 08 2022We are just weeks away from GWS 2022, and we are readying for lots of action on the public policy and sustainability fronts.
Taking Action Through Our Public Policy Forums
I had the pleasure to sit down with Worldwide ERC® Government Affairs Adviser Tristan North in this week’s One Take conversation to get the inside scoop on what we can expect from the public policy forums at GWS 2022 and the issues we are working on today.
As Tristan explains, “the timing of GWS and the policy forums is critical.” Congress is ramping up its work on end-of-year proposals and will soon head into the lame duck session, where policymakers are gearing up to act on a wide variety of issues important to our members following November’s midterm elections. Some of the key issues we will discuss during the public policy forums are:
- Compliance Forum Policies
- American Data Privacy and Protection Act
- Moving Americans Privacy Protection Act
- California Assembly Bill 5 (AB5)
- Immigration Forum Policies
- Backlog in visa processing
- H-1B cap reached and country cap elimination on employment-based green cards
- Real Estate Forum Policies
- E-notarization efforts
- Wire fraud
- Tax Forum Policies
- Global minimum tax
- Reinstatement of the Moving Tax Deduction and Reduction
Worldwide ERC is currently organizing targeted outreach to key congressional offices in support of our policy positions alongside our members. Members should reach out to Tristan (tnorth@worldwideerc.org) if they have any questions or would like to assist with our advocacy efforts.
Leading on Global Sustainability Initiatives
Sustainability continues to be front and center for us and will be at GWS, too. This week, Worldwide ERC joined forces with five leading employee mobility associations from around the world and signed a joint agreement that provides the global mobility industry with a roadmap and common actions toward achieving greater environmental sustainability.
The participating associations have commissioned Deloitte to assist in defining the coalition’s priorities and outlining a roadmap for this undertaking. As a first action point, Deloitte will facilitate an industrywide survey with the member companies of all participating associations to understand how our industry is engaging with sustainability and to identify shared priorities. Be on the lookout for the survey in the coming days. The results will be shared for the first time at GWS.
Speaking of surveys, you have until tomorrow, Sept. 9, to take the 2022 Transfer Volume & Cost survey if you have not done so already.
With GWS soon approaching, be sure to visit the events page to check out the program. I hope to see you soon in Las Vegas, Oct. 25–28, 2022!
