We’re hosting a webinar today, 5 August, at 11:00 AM (ET) to discuss public policy developments, how they may impact you and how you can play a part in our advocacy efforts.

As the world works to emerge from the global pandemic, we are half-way through the first year of the Biden Administration and the 117th Congress. Will federal policymakers be able to reach agreement on top issues of concern to the global mobility and relocation industry – and what might the implications be on U.S. businesses? Will the business tax rate change? What is the current state of all-things real estate and mortgage? What other public policy surprises could be on the way?

To find out, join Worldwide ERC®’s Vice President of Member Engagement and Public Policy Rebecca Peters and Worldwide ERC® Public Policy Forum Leaders today, 5 August, at 11:00 AM (ET) and learn what you should expect in the coming months, what may be the impact on your employer and employees and how you can play a part in our advocacy efforts.

Top Tax Issues in the U.S. and Abroad

Joining the conversation to discuss tax public policy issues in the U.S. and abroad will be Vice Chair of Worldwide ERC®’s Tax Forum, Jen Stein, managing director of Global Tax Network (GTN). Top of mind is the latest bipartisan infrastructure bill, what will affect mobility, where the legislation stands, and how it might get paid for. Following Worldwide ERC®’s letter to Congressional leaders in early May asking for tax relief in the infrastructure bill, we’ll discuss what exactly Worldwide ERC® is asking for, and how members can share the message.

Stein will also discuss the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development’s (OECD) recently announced global agreement on a global minimum tax plan and what it means for mobility; the recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to not take up a key remote work taxation case and what to expect next; and important updates for tax filing around remote work.

Regulatory Compliance Around the World

Providing insight to the conversation from a regulatory compliance standpoint will be the Vice Chair of Worldwide ERC®’s Regulatory and Compliance Public Policy Forum Jeff Margolis, executive vice president and general counsel at SIRVA. We’ll discuss the Senate’s recent passage of the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act and its consideration in the House, a bill which contains important data privacy language to protect personally identifiable information on manifests of carriers coming to the U.S. that Worldwide ERC® supports. We’ll touch upon what members need to know now and what is happening on the state level regarding privacy regulations.

Additionally, we’ll highlight our advocacy work to raise issues of extreme impacts related to cargo preference delays and incidences of extreme costs; what members should know about the EU Data Protection Board’s updated standard contractual clauses; and President Biden’s Cyber Security Order that updates federal cyber security standards and is designed to improve public/private coordination in the development of cyber security controls and protections.

The Real Estate & Mortgage Market Now

Finally, Worldwide ERC®’s Chair of the Real Estate and Mortgage Public Policy Forum Jay Hershman of Baillie & Hershman will provide us with the latest updates on the real estate market and highlight the public policies you need to be following now. This includes the hot real estate market, local updates that members should be tracking or preparing for regarding assignees or those relocating to the U.S., and the importance of the introduction of the SECURE Notarization Act in the Senate and the House this year.

How Public Policies can Support Economic Recovery

This webinar will also amplify the imperative for public policies that support economic recovery. With an economy that’s bouncing back and strong competition for global talent, it’s important that employers are able to safely recruit, transfer, and relocate talent between the U.S. and across borders. Throughout these efforts, policymakers can drive economic recovery with public policies that support work anywhere, are agile and attentive to the needs of employers.
