Worldwide ERC® Supports Program Developing a Diverse Talent Pipeline for Global Mobility

As companies around the world grapple with the effects of ongoing labor shortages and confront a highly competitive hiring environment, building a skilled and diverse talent pipeline has never been more important for the employee relocation industry. That is why I am so proud to announce that the second cohort of the Upward Mobility intern program is set to begin in the coming weeks, with companies throughout our industry working together to promote and support diversity in global mobility by making opportunities more accessible to underserved communities.

This year’s program began with 13 different companies offering 20 paid internship opportunities for students through Upward Mobility. While some applicants were sourced directly by host companies, we are also grateful for the support of partners at Eleven+, Cleveland State University and the University of Colorado at Denver for all they have done to promote the program. As of today, I am especially excited to welcome the 10 student participants who have already accepted their offers and will be officially joining this year’s Upward Mobility cohort!

Co-founded by former Worldwide ERC Board Chair Andrew Walker and Dwellworks President and CEO Bob Rosing in 2021, Upward Mobility partners with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other minority serving institutions to match talented students with organizations in the mobility industry for paid summer internships. In doing so, the program seeks to develop a more diverse and inclusive talent pipeline, while also offering interested students of color the opportunity to learn more about our industry. Aside from the internship itself, participants are connected with mentors within their host company to support them throughout the program, invited to attend a networking event with members of Worldwide ERC’s Young Professionals Network to build industry connections and share their own experiences, and participate in industry-specific workshops led by senior mobility leaders.

Building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive mobility industry is a key priority for Worldwide ERC, and the Upward Mobility internship program is just one of many ongoing conversations that we are having as an organization committed to the principles of DE&I. We plan to continue these discussions throughout the year as well as in Boston, Massachusetts, for the 2023 Global Workforce Symposium.
